Why do so many people fail to achieve their goals?
Here’s the thing:
Setting goals is relatively easy - you think about what you want and then maybe write it down. Job done.
But achieving the goal is a whole new ball game. Research has shown that only 8% of people who set goals in the new year actually achieve them, meaning a whopping 92% of people don’t! (more about that here if you’re interested https://medium.com/the-ascent/why-only-8-of-people-achieve-their-goals-according-to-research-998198f84cf).
Now there are loads of reasons why a person doesn’t hit their goal, but these are the 5 things that I see time and time again, I wonder if any resonate?
#1- Your mindset isn’t supporting you.
Success in achieving our goals comes down to a ‘success mindset’. Having this type of mindset that serves and supports you will increase the likelihood of both formulating a winning perspective and achieving long-term success. This is because your mindset not only influences how you think and feel about people, situations, and circumstances, It affects how you react to them.
#2 You don’t believe you can do it.
As our friend, Henry Ford, said “whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right”.
Our beliefs are something that we accept as true and are not necessarily correct or accurate. Our beliefs are often formed at a very early age and influenced by a variety of factors including our upbringing, environment and experiences and can be conscious and unconscious. It is entirely possible to change our beliefs, but this takes time and consistency. Here is a guide I wrote to help you to do this https://www.thefrankmagazine.com/overcome-imposter-syndrome/
#3 Your habits don’t support your success.
Our habits have the power to make or break us. If you want to know what your results in life are going to be, just take a look at the things you do every day. Success comes from the small incremental steps that we take every day that compound.
Building the right habits is essential to achieving your goals, even if that means sacrificing other things. You have to make space for the everyday work that takes you towards your goal. You won't achieve your goal if isn't important enough to find time for.

#4- You’re not taking the right action
I see so many people doing busy work, but often the tasks they’re doing aren’t the ones that will move the needle. There are different reasons for this; sometimes people are completely oblivious to the fact that what they are doing isn’t what’s needed to get the result they desire. However, others are in full self-sabotage mode and completely aware that they are doing anything but the uncomfortable thing that they need to be doing.
#5- You don’t have the right support
Who is on your team? Are you surrounded by positive, inspirational like-minded individuals who challenge, motivate and empower you to succeed? If yes - amazing! Spend as much time as you can with these people. If not go find some. Seriously we are an average of the 5 people we spend the most time with. Spend time with 5 driven and successful people, you will be the 6th. It’s so important to get help from your network too and to share your goals with others as this creates personal accountability.
You don’t have to do this stuff alone, if you don’t want to. I offer a couple of different ways we can work together to help you get to where you want to be.
Whether it’s a one-off power hour coaching session to bring you clarity and direction and get you moving further, faster or some longer-term support, encouragement and accountability - I’ve got you covered.
